What are the Types of Fishing Reels?
Tuesday, 17 April 2007And eventually, many different types were created after they first seen and experienced the importance of fishing reels. Here are the types of fishing reels.
1. Fly Reel – This is also known as fly casting. This type of fishing reel was then so simple. Charles Orvis patented the first design in 1874. This is composed of a stripping line, which can be operated with your one hand, and the other hand will cast the rod. You will need to use hand pressure so that you can tame the fish. But this design was developed and an adjustable drag was provided.
2. Bait Casting Reel – Another name for this type of reels is overhead reel. These are reels that store the line on a spool that is revolving. This reel is attached to the top of the rod and is mainly made from iron or brass and spools made from hard rubber. But at this time, bait casting reels are made from stainless steel, aluminum and they include a level-wind mechanism so that the line will not get tangled when winding. They also have now spool tension that can be adjusted.
3. Spinning Reel – These reels are free from backlash. The lines usually can be trapped underneath on the spool. The line can also be detached from the reel in bird’s nests. They also have oscillating spool and level-wind mechanism. However, using spinning reel, there is likely a chance of the fishing line being twisted.
4. Spin Cast Reel – These reels have fixed spool. Compared to bait cast reels, they can cast lighter lures. Also, they have narrower spools and little line capacity. And because of this, they actually have less issues with line snare.
5. Underspin Reel – This is also called as triggerspin reel. These reels are attached underneath a spinning rod. They do not have wire bail but instead have 2 pick up pins. To operate just turn the crank handle. And since it is mounted beneath the rod, they provide comfort of use even if you will be fishing for a long time.
6. Direct-drive Reel – The spool and the handle of this reels works in the same manner. If you move the handle backward, the spool moves downwards, too.
7. Anti-reverse Reel – These reels has stationary handle and a mechanism that moves the line.
