Deep Sea Fishing in Alabama
Friday, 13 April 2007There is a wide variety of fish that can be caught in the waters of Alabama. They range from the amberjack, cobia, blacktip shark, tarpon, dolphin, Blackfin tuna, the sea trout and even the mighty barracuda. The amberjack is especially abundant in Alabama. This fish possesses dark stripes all over its body and is quite the tasty treat. Most of the techniques involved in deep sea fishing in Alabama are the still fishing, casting, drifting or trolling.
One of the best places to go deep sea fishing in Alabama is Orange Beach. Located along the Alabama Gulf Coast, Orange Beach is famed for its red snapper, as well as its white snapper, lane snapper, red group, scamp and triggerfish. Most anglers take almost a full day to catch these through bottomfishing.
Deep sea fishing in Alabama is great during the fall and winter season. Aside from the red snapper, fishermen also fish for the mackerel, which abound in the month of December. If sport fishing is your passion, Alabama also offers you the chance to haul in a 50-pound Wahoo a big king mackerel which can be caught by trolling offshore or casting into a bed of floating grass or a school of bait. You may also catch a dolphin, which is also known as a dorado or a mahi mahi. These beautiful creatures can change their hues into green, yellow or blue as they dance in and out of the waters.
There is also the chance for you to catch a blue marlin or a white marlin offshore. They are not caught everyday but if you are lucky enough to have these take your trolling lure, then you are certainly in for the experience of your lifetime. While you may not be able to catch any big game fish on some days, you are sure to land a prized catch such as yellowfin tuna, sailfish or blackfin tuna on other days.
Because of the sporadic nature of catches, some charter boats offer two day fishing expeditions. Tuna fishing trips, for example, last for as long as 48 hours. Charter boats depend on the number of people in your party, although most can carry up to about 10 anglers on extended offshore trips. If you decide to combine your big game trips with bottomfishing, be careful as you might be sacrificing some valuable time for big game fishing.
Whether you’re traveling with your friends and family, or just your favorite fishing buddy, there’s always a deep sea fishing expedition waiting to fulfill your fishing fantasies in the heart of Alabama.
